Why Preprocessing is Essential in Reflectance Spectroscopy
In reflectance NIR spectroscopy, physical factors like sample density, grain size, and probe distance create baseline offsets. These offsets mask chemical absorption peaks. MSC and SNV are mathematical algorithms designed to isolate chemical absorption from physical light scatter.
Comparing SNV and MSC
SNV processes each spectrum individually, standardizing the variance. MSC regresses each spectrum against a reference average spectrum. Both methods are available in the caliX suite. This tutorial explains the advantages of each method.
